Hard Hat Walk FAQ


What is the Hard Hat Walk?
An interactive 5k walk along the beautiful waterfront of Mission Bay, AT&T Park, and San Francisco’s neighboring communities beginning with opening remarks by Mark Laret, CEO of UCSF Medical Center and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, and exciting walk kick-off performances by local entertainment.

Who can participate?
Everyone is invited! Children 12 and under are complimentary!

Is the event ADA compliant?
Yes, the Hard Hat Walk is ADA compliant.

How do I volunteer?

How can I make a donation?
Go to the Donate tab on the homepage.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, all donations are tax deductible.

How long is the Hard Hat Walk?
The Hard Hat Walk is a 5k walk (3.1 miles). At a casual pace, it will take 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete.

What time does the Hard Hat Walk start?

Check-in begins at 3:30pm and the walk begins at 5:30pm.

Is the Hard Hat Walk being timed?
There is no official timekeeping for the walk. Participants can take as long as they like to walk the 5k route.

How do I register?
Register online here! Day of registration is also available.

Can I register at the event?
Yes. Please go to the “Walk Info” tent to register.

Can I register someone else?
Yes, however each person must have their own email address when registering.

How much does the Hard Hat Walk cost?
Walk registration is $25 which can be provided by a one time payment or a donation.

What forms of payment are accepted?
All major credit cards (Visa, MC, AMEX) are accepted. For donations via check, please visit our Donation FAQ page

How can I start a team?
It’s easy. As you register, click the ‘start a team’ button and follow the prompts.

How many people can be on a team?
There is no maximum amount of teammates on a team.

How do I raise funds?
Visit our fundraising toolkit for ideas on how to raise funds and involve your friends, family and co-workers!

When can I begin fundraising?
You are able to begin fundraising the day you register!

Are there any incentives to fundraising?

Yes. Please visit our Incentive prize page to see a full list of Hard Hat Walk incentives.

Where do I park my car?
When you register, you will have the option of requesting a parking space. Information on where to park will be provided within your registration confirmation email. Discounted parking fees will apply.

Where can I park my bike?
Bike racks are available throughout the UCSF campus and will be available at the event. 
 
Where do I check in?
Upon arrival, check in at Energy Center on the corner of Third Street and 16th Street. Directional signage will help guide you to this location upon arrival .Please see map here.

What about strollers, pets, inline skates and bikes?
Strollers are welcome. For the safety of all participants, inline skates and pets are not allowed.

What happens in the event of rain?
The event will occur rain or shine. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances.

What should I bring?
Be sure to bring your photo ID for check in. We recommend you also bring along sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and a smile! There is no coat check, so please bring only what you are willing to carry.

If I cannot finish the Hard Hat Walk, is there a way for me to get back?
There will be shuttles all along the route to drive you back to the start of the walk.

If I cannot attend the walk or festival, will I receive a refund?
Due to the large number of registrants and the fundraising nature of the event, we are not able to issue refunds if you are unable to attend. We greatly appreciate your donation to UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay and thank you for your contribution!
